Old Ferry Road Property Development Proposal

Exploring a clean-energy technology park on town-owned land

Wiscasset owns nearly 300 acres of industrial-zoned land known as the Maine Yankee Backland Properties, located just across Old Ferry Road from Central Maine Power’s 1000-megawatt substation. With direct access by road, rail, and river, this property is one of Maine’s most ideally situated sites for clean energy development.

RePower Wiscasset is exploring how this land could be transformed into a clean-energy technology park that supports new businesses, creates local jobs, and strengthens the town’s tax base. Possible uses include renewable power generation, grid-scale energy storage, hydrogen production, carbon-capture innovation, and workforce housing.

Our goal is to bring together town officials, state agencies, and potential investors to fulfill the community’s long-standing vision for a technology park—first imagined in 2003, and ready to be re-energized for today’s clean-energy era.
